Tokyo’s Best Gay Bars
Tokyo is an Asian mega-city with a population of over thirteen million people. Given its gargantuan size, it should come as no surprise that this city has a sizeable and active gay scene.
The gay neighbourhood in Tokyo is located in district two, known locally as Shinjuku Ni-chome. There are many gay bars, cafes and clubs situated here, however, some are exclusively for Japanese clientele. You might not agree with this policy but you can’t negotiate your way around it so it’s best to just move on to somewhere your custom is more welcome.
Tokyo Gay Bars
AiiRO Café – This friendly cafe bar is located right in the heart of the gay district and offers a welcoming atmosphere to all. It’s particularly nice in the summer when people spill out onto the surrounding streets.
Leo Lounge – This bear-friendly bar is popular with bears, otters, and the more mature man. It’s a simple affair serving decent drinks at good prices with welcoming bar staff.
GB Tokyo – GB is especially popular with visitors and expats who live in the city. It’s a great spot to head to before you go clubbing and there’s always the opportunity to meet a fellow traveller.
Dragon Men – This place offers a little of everything, from great drinks deals to an outside terrace. It’s also a little cruisy if you’re looking to hook up. The daily happy hours are always a popular time to check this place out.
Tokyo Gay Clubs
VITA Tokyo – The venue hosts popular dance parties roughly six times a year. Occasionally they have pool parties but they always have top DJs playing. Tickets can sell out quickly so it’s best to book in advance.
Arty Farty – This well-established venue hosts popular nights and has a large lounge, pumping dance floor and an extremely fun crowd. You can get a free stamp to The Annex and the drinks are very reasonable.
AiSOTOPE Lounge – As well as a dance floor this cool club also has a dark room and fantastic cocktails. They have lots of regular events and host men-only nights too.
