Gay Christmas holidays are the perfect way to escape the frenzied shopping and stress in the run-up to the holidays.
A Gay Christmas in…Germany
Deutschland is the home of the Christmas market and the options are plentiful. Berlin alone has over five different markets – the one located in Charlottenburg is both centrally located, spacious and as pretty as they come. Cologne and Nuremberg are excellent choices and both have a lively gay scene. With hearty portions of stews and steins of beer in abundance Germany never disappoints.
A Gay Christmas in…Czech Republic
Prague’s two Christmas markets, located in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, while busy, boast authenticity with plenty of locals foods and souvenirs. Prague lends itself to the festive period with its imposing castle perched atop a hill and cobbled streets hiding plenty of bars where you can spend the cold winter evenings.
A Gay Christmas in…Austria
The Viennese Christmas market in the country’s capital is staged in front of the beautiful City Hall. The market offers all the delights you would expect and Vienna has plenty to do besides checking out the gay bars and gorging on sausages and mulled wine.
A Gay Christmas in…Croatia
Surprisingly, Zagreb has won Europe’s top Christmas market for two consecutive years now. They go all out here with life-size nativity scenes, the expected food and drink and also an impressive outdoor ice skating rink. Despite being thought of as a summer destination there’s plenty to do here on a gay Christmas holiday. An interesting attraction is the Museum of Broken Relationships – devoted to failed love affairs.
A Gay Christmas in…Lithuania
Lithuania might not be the obvious choice for a gay Christmas getaway, however, this Eastern European destination is rapidly liberalising and becoming a top choice for travellers. The Christmas market in Vilnius is small but incredibly picturesque. And, the small cobbled streets filled with craft beer bars and cafes ooze festive charm and won’t damage the wallet throughout this spendy season.
