Best Amsterdam Gay Bars
Amsterdam is one of the most perennially cool cities in the world. With its rich culture, alternative politics and unique charm – Amsterdam is one of the best gay destinations there is.
Most of the gay action is Amsterdam centres around Reguliersdwarsstraat. Soho and Taboo are two of the city’s most popular haunts. Both are fairly standard affairs with Soho having a little more character of the two venues. Also situated in the Reguliersdwarsstraat is possibly one of our favourite gay bars in the whole world – Exit. This tiny but popular bar is open every night of the week until 4am and has a daily happy hour between 1am and 3am.
There is a selection of gay bars in Amsterdam located down by the Amstel river which has more of a local feel about them. Amstel Fifty Four is a nice place to head after 11pm when they have a DJ or drag show. If you’re looking for cheap drinks and pop music then Queers Amsterdam is a new venue offering just that. No gay guide to Amsterdam would be complete without mentioning Club Church. Primarily a men’s only venue they hold a range of fetish parties which can be a little quiet in the week but are very popular on the weekends.
Drake’s Cruising is a sex shop and cruising area located very close to Amsterdam’s main central station. You enter through the shop but the fun starts upstairs. There are soft drinks and beers available from the vending machine and it’s free for those under 26. It’s a hit and miss place but often popular in the early evening. Warmoesstraat, which is almost in the heart of the red light district, has a collection of Amsterdam gay bars which are aimed at those into leather and kink. Dirty Dicks and The Eagle are the two most popular venues here. Both can get busy at the weekend but have a fairly small crowd during the week.
